The Edge of My World

The Edge of My World

A Poem by Marquise

They say the end of the world is nearing
So maybe if we all stand at the edge of it
we could see more clearly

Cause we all want what
we think we need to survive
Have the American dream
get a piece of that pie

Well don't save me a slice
I'd rather get full eating the word of life

Plus the American pie is already
sliced and divided
Except nobody wants to eat the crust
We call that the projects

But how can we save them
if they don't want to be saved?
The same way we enslaved them
when they didn't want to be slaved

But world ain't the same no more
Single parents homes ain't a surprise no more
I might as well join the club, right?
Convince some girl to have my baby
cause shes blinded by love....

Don't look down on her for being blinded by love
Because Faith is believing in what you DON'T see
She's not blinded by love
She's blinded by what she believes...

And I guess I'll do what my daddy did.
And don't even acknowledge it's my kid
I got married to my inheritance
Thats why I wear this ring of abandonment

But I had an affair with the God in me
And He removed the mask from the world that blinded me
Now I see more clearly
And I divorced myself from the old me

I went to court for the settlement
I gladly paid the full price for it
Now I'm broke and I'm loving it...

I guess this is what freedom really is...
It's no wonder why freedom rings
So before you leave this earth
Take a trip to the edge of the world
and find your worth....

Wow I really like this poem, the message and imagery
are on point. You took the American dream and exposed
its darkside the side that labels the people who don't
make it. I like it. Good Job.

I don't consider myself a writer because I don't write often, but I have trouble putting words together when I want to express myself verbally. Writing is the one way I can do this successfully. I lov.. more..
