Petals

Petals

I can lay here and pull apart flower petals
Asking myself
“will he let go, or won’t he”

These feelings are all tangled up inside
Should be & shouldn’t be

I’m holding onto what has
Already begun to slip through my fingers

A love so instant
A love so distant
A love so vacant

The thousands of petals
Scattered around me
Won’t give me an answer
That belongs to you

The stems that have been broken
The sunlight that has been wasted

My thoughts that have faded
My hearts slow ache beats out a steady hum

A wind passes by
The sounds of “I love you”
Carried on by
Meant for lovers
Who hold one another close
Without the chance of letting go

The sunshine creeping back to its beloved horizon
As another day slips away
To be replaced by
Dark sky &
His moonshine

I can stay here
Surrounded by flower petals
With my head on my knees
My arms wrapped around myself
Giving myself the answer that petals won’t
