A Poem by Mark MacDonald
"

A love poem.

I need to hear the tales your hands have to tell"
the gentlest ones"the story of the rock and the stream
for example: those two lovers they said would
never make it"the one was too rugged and

the other ran too fast. In the version of your hands
however, they remained together for centuries"
until the one rubbed smooth and the other stayed still.

In each of your fingers is a fable of turtles and lilies"
documents of water and it’s crystal secrets;
birds in the night, feather to feather, hiding from the wind
"and those nightmares that would destroy them"

were it not for that branch they faithfully share.
