Poem for Grandfather Carlson

Poem for Grandfather Carlson

A Poem by Mark Holmgren

1
We count stars
as if tabulation can explain
the darkness

We want to believe
a stonecutter's error
brought us here

but to look is to see
the truth
precisely carved

2
In this mist we feel
what we cannot see   we fear
what touches heart bone soul:
ghost of a possibility

3
Here we are
in the presence of what
we have never known
but have always questioned
united as we are divided
as if each of us
were the wing of a cricket
the cricket being
something else altogether.

Oh this is gorgeous! There is a wonderful sense of awe and magic about it that compelled me to continue reading. There is just something so magnificient about this kind of poetic eloquence.

A truly excellent read.
