My Fear Was Psycho/Logical

My Fear Was Psycho/Logical

A Poem by Mark Holmgren

which meant I was crazy scared to death which meant

I knew you didn't think I knew what was going on.
I was flat on my back trying to write off what my mind was
reading: your eyes bright --  No! refulgent with expectation
that spared no light for me (and I heard you    I heard you
whispering on the phone to God knows who)

You spoke of mountains and molehills. You shook
the floor with impassioned feet and hot! You were
red hot angry at my lack of trust and you began to cry
and you cried until I apologized, until I told you
to forget it, have a good time.

Then you wiped your eyes and smiled.
Thanks, Baby, you said.
Then you walked away,
hips swaying
breasts pointing to the door,
and just before you left,
you turned,
winked,
and blew me a kiss.

It missed.
