Until I follow you

Until I follow you

A Poem by Mark Heathcote

Love hangs upon a star
But it’s equally as scared
As a ministering moon,
Whose prayers go unaired?

Who’s absent hope abjection?
Cries a harbor light!
“Love me, land on me soon.
It’s my only birthright”.

But that isn’t to say…
The harbor lights of love
Won’t descend into puddles,
Potholes of night and shade…

Love hangs upon a star
As a ministering angel
And says, I love you, but you…
Can’t do that; on my vigil.

I’ll sail and use my sextant
Till at last I find you
But I need to be sure of you
Until I follow you.

I guess love is never a sure thing, and there will always be pitfalls and puddles to fall into, but you keep on searching and hoping and loving, and eventually you will find your safe harbor, Mark. This is a very deeply felt poem and it says so much. Very good job!

Thanks Joyce for this review :)
Great style...very classic in nature. I'm reminded a bit of D.H. Lawrence in the way that you use tone and structure. Concept wise, this was stellar...you show a fresh perspective, which I always appreciate. Great imagery, and the flow is quite nice.

I want to just way wow, but I have to say more. I love when someone finds a new metaphor for a love poem and you have done so and explored it thoroughly and with skills. Those lights can be reflected off the ocean true or a dirty ole puddle. How true. How inspired. Bravo.

I like all kinds of poems but I tend to gravitate toward eastern spiritual poetry. My muse almost demands it of me. So you may find quite a few being poured out from time to time. I all so write man.. more..
