A Poem for Purple

A Poem for Purple

A Poem by Markus Anthony
"

It was a very sad day.

"
Life is supple
and brief
and really fragile.
When coldness of death is blue
When warmth of life is red
The conclusion of these colors
Makes heaven purple.

You are a chance
A growing seed on Earth
You were cut short
Had the universe seen your worth
You'd be a firefighter, a teacher or a painter
The moment you stopped fighting it was,
A heartbreaker.

Live in heaven that is purple
Maybe you are needed up there
To give them smiles and laughter
For now your parents grieve
And in sorrow they hope
That Purple visits them in their dreams
No matter how short they may seem.

line 6 of stanza two i think you meant "you"
this has great use of colors in it...an infant cut down before life can happen...but yes, maybe he or she will grow up "up there" and bring joy to those above as he or she would have here.
When anyone's life is cut short...no matter what the age....those left behind carry the grief.
really good piece, here,

This is one of the most meaningful poems I've read from you so far. I like how you use the blending of colors to signify different "zones" & your message seems to want to stay in the purple zone, which is fitting & understandable. Even tho your viewpoint in this poem is looking at this infant life cut down too soon, in reality, you are showing us more about YOURSELF, than about this hospital scene. I know there will be many such challenges thru-out your life & I can only hope that, with your tender heart, you won't burn out on sadness & adopt a more hardened exterior on your medical journey (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

That's very thoughtful of you thank you very much. Bless you Margie.
Markus you have captured this medic/patient empathy so clearly and so exactly in this heartfelt and sda poem. Purple is a colour of many shades. People often refer to a 'purple patch' meaning a good spell in life.
I liked the first line as the use of the word supple appears odd but allows the reader to ponder and understand that life indeed is changable. Your word choice in this sombre free verse captures the sentiment exactly!
