The Yester Ghost

The Yester Ghost

A Poem by Mark

THE YESTER GHOST

Like those enormous showy roses

Which so captivate our eyes

Though they disappoint our noses--

Your love, my dear, is only size!

Like a bulb of elephant garlic

Lacking pungency or savor

As deceptive as a varlet,

Substituting size for flavor

So are your grand approaches

All appearance, lacking depth.

So, I'll be bayin' "Buenas Noches!",

And seek my One Love someplace else.

You drew me so slyly in,

(But I was, Oh!, too glad to come!)

Where I had 'til then so rarely been

But now I'm feelin' pretty dumb!

Because the damp, pink trap you set

Shortly dried and turned to grey

Once it had caused me to forget

The Greater Prize I'd won one day.

So, I'll be sighin' "Sayonara",

And shortly addin' "Adios"

Serve up a dose of "Dos Vedanye"

Now you've become the Yester Ghost!

Author's Note

Mark
Contrary to popular supposition, this is not a vitriolic attack
at a specific woman (ie, my ex-wife), but rather a slam at myself,
for failing to learn from past mistakes, and hence, repeating them.

Try not to beat yourself up, Mark, because I've walked in your shoes, and I suspect many others have, too. When it comes to romance, I always walked into each relationship fat, dumb, and happy, oblivious to the sound of the sharpening ax.

What a wonderful and cleverly written poem. Having suffered through something similar, I understand well the anger directed at self over having been so foolish. They say that "love makes you blind." I, on the other hand, think that sometimes "love makes you stupid."

Great job!

lol. I like the subtle quality of this piece. The turn of tongue is just the right amount. The ending is the only way to end a message like this. So, moving on...
I think it would make a fitting new year's resolution as well.
Hit the nail on the head with this one Mark.

anytime you use elephant garlic as a metaphor, things can't have been good. here's hoping for happier metaphors in the future.
