I concur. I remember as a little girl always wanting Christmas to be special and always being disappointed. That changed when we started celebrating it differently - when I was married with children and we started worshiping. I'm good with presents and food and festivities but for me - it gelled when I understood what Christ was all about. Well penned
Yes, I too yearn for what seems to have passed and gone regarding Christ in Christmas. That's why I love to attend church and sing in the choir, though it's getting harder and harder. I can't drive at night for rehearsals or the vespers services.
There is no Christmas without the word Christ - and that's so, like it or not. But in every sense of the word He would have that time shared with all people who believe that doing unto others as you would have them do unto you is what matters on this earth.
This time of year is up to each individual, it has to be, we can't dictate rules because of this or that but, we can hope that sharing, giving, loving are the greatest gifts exchanged; we can't queue up in a store or pass over credit cards or write cheques for those actions, they're free and should be, could be, can be, must be, freely given .. whatever one's belief, even if it's to study an autumn leaf and call it beautiful, to look up at clouds and see faces smiling .. what matters is what's in the spirit .. His spirit, another Spirit ..
And, while were at it, let's put the Christ back in US as we celebrate this sacred holiday. Give a little more. Ask a little less. Realize that the true gifts are faith, hope and charity; not clothes, bling and technology.
It would be lovely to find that old Christmas again.
To me, spirituality and faith is to be respected in all faces of it...Christmas has become something unrecognised...for those who do believe in its originality :) Saddening now that people would rather have gifts than time with family and so forth..some things never lose their sparkle though...still remains a time of love and for those who are Christians, it shall remain a lovely time of praise and rememberance :)
Beautiful poem love! xoxo
I'm not that religious at all, however I did like this poem. Generally, when you think of Christmas nowadays, people's first response is usually something about Santa, or the Hallmark-ized fantasy of a date we all know and love, rather the something even faintly resembling a reference to Christ. Well done!
Writing, for me, has always been the friend who brought out the best in me, and who would never argue with me, except when necessary to point out my many obvious inconsistancies.
Writing and.. more..
