My Ten Newest Friends

My Ten Newest Friends

A Poem by Mark
"

Reflections on a class of nurses I was blessed to interact with, while in Hospital.

"

MY TEN NEWEST FRIENDS

I’ve never been able to produce on demand;

Past attempts so to do have spawned some real rubbish!

Now my ten newest friends have come up with a plan

That I’ll happily try, as we’ve gotten quite clubbish!

“The Ladies In Red”, I started to call this,

As the hue of their smocks was all my ten friends shared:

So I thought!, for in none was kindness e’er amiss,

And from all, warmest smiles quite readily flared!

No my ten newest friends three-weeks’ tour’s at an end

And I’ve learned more from them than I’ll ever digest!

But the strength of those swiftly-formed friends I’ll defend

As these ten newest, tenuous friendships attest!

If they now must depart, so must I as well do--

They shared with me their hearts, now I share them with you!

God love the nurses.. My Mom is a retired RN and she would come home talking about this patient, that patient as if they were long lost cousins. So yes, I can see how the bonds form..
This is a great write, and I am going to share this with her.
