A Frost-y Conundrum

A Frost-y Conundrum

A Poem by Mark
"

With thanks to Robert Frost, a mash up of lines from several of his better known works, including "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Eve", and "Fences".

"
A FROST-Y CONUNDRUM

Two roads in yellow wood diverge,
The one well-trod, on which I go;
Another, darker, with it does merge--
Where it may lead, I may not know!

Good fence good neighbors make, it's said:
Must I, 'gainst you, more fences raise?
'twould seem I am too easy led
Off honored path, to dang'rous ways!

My mind and ego are distressed,
But my heart has promises to keep!
For now, I must endure this test--
We've miles to go before we sleep!

Most people do not realize that Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken"- in his own words- was written about a friend who was the type of person who would have fretted about not taking the other path regardless of which he chose- but for whom both paths would have turned out more or less the same. Not that he believed in predestiny, but he seemed to understand human nature quite well- our ability to place more importance on our choices, and our sleves, than maybe we actually should. I like your homage to his work, then, in its simple humility of acknowledging that most of us do select paths worn down by our predecessors, and that the paths are often not all that fuflfilling after all. We all have work to do, don't we, and oten it is dreadfully dull and unfulfilling work. Let's hope the eternal rest is more thna a myth, shall we?

I read your poem before I read your note. As I read it, all I thought of was Robert Frost. I have always loved his poems, I enjoyed yours very much too. Thank you.

Certainly more sophisticated than my similar effort. No drunkard, no zombies--not even an angry rabbit. Well-penned, Mark!
