Empty Sheets

Empty Sheets

A Poem by Marimorgan

As I'm lying
Quiet in my bed
I feel emptiness
A hollow in my side
A void your warmth
Usually fills
I toss and sigh
Restless
It seems so strange
to be alone tonight
When I'm used to
sleeping delicately
On my side while
You stretch out.
Arms in tight, legs together
I curl up
Careful-
I must be careful
You need your space
I spread my arms, my legs
Encompassing the bed
The pillow my own kingdom
Every inch mine
And mine only
I luxuriate in the space
Yet, the bed is so cold
And my shoulder and hip ache
Where they usually touch yours
And the sheets
They're so icy without you
I lie quiet in my bed
Slipping into a dream
Your arms are there once again
Folding night around me.
