Parasite

Parasite

A Poem by Marilyn Philips

When the host doesn’t realize

The umbra that is being cast

Across the sunlit fields

And how the gold

Has turned to lead

That weighs heavy

On everything

When the host doesn’t realize

That their energy is being diverted

To the parasite

Hiding in plain sight

That will leave them

With nothing

Just a shell
