reflections on a summer day inside with the cold air conditioner blasting
ahhh summer
for children it is freedom from school, a time to run down the street, collect shells on the beach
dive with gusto into the ocean waves and hope to come up again, to do it again
for teens it is a time to ramble together, kiss in the pool, sit on the rocks by the ocean
and to gaze at the blue clear sky, with a bare minimum of clothing to cover
the tan ripe skin
for moms it is a time to let the kids play, to sit on a beach chair, to barbeque chicken and make summer food
to smile and to let the sun soothe the worries away and to be rich with satistaction
for the old woman, home bound and lame , cold with the needed air conditioner blasting, it is a time to gaze out the window , see the hot sun baking the streets, the hazy sky
and to sigh and sigh... wanting to join the others in the '' good ole summertime''
Its tone is nostalgia. In fact, it reminded me of something from the Romantic era! Almost an ode of some sort. To me, summer is languid, it is a time of rest, a time to slow down. You convey this in your various listings of men, women, teenagers and children, each of them enjoying their summer in their own way.
I felt a touch of sadness when you mentioned how a mother would partake (or attempt to partake) in summer. I wonder, would she truly find the time to pause and reflect upon the beach or the barbecue chicken when she is so involved in creating those idyllic memories for her children?...
Your words intrigue.
Best wishes,
Eliza

This is a melancholy tale that might be the way many lonely people feel about being left out of the good ole summertime fun. I love the way you pick various groups of people & splash a few strokes of word paint to show each bunch & how their summer shenanigans are going. Well-chosen details that paint each scene in a vivid & relatable way. I never liked air conditioning . . . it's hot here, but I don't have A/C. Your poem leaves the reader with a sad breath of melancholy *sigh!* Fondly, Margie

I feel for those who live alone, regardless of whatever circumstances that led to it. It's not such a bad place to be if it is of your own choosing, but it can be daunting in many ways. I hope you find your piece of the sky!
Take care!
