Don't Look Back in Anger

Don't Look Back in Anger

A Poem by marielondon

Is there not the tiniest twinge of sadness

When you remember that the red flashing light

On your phone

Will not be me?

You wonder all day and night

Of deep thoughts and plans for the future

And it was me who you had to share them with

Does it hurt that you can’t anymore?

Is there no pain knowing

You won’t see me for weeks

We won’t speak for months

And we won’t ever be the same?

I want you to go crazy without hearing my thoughts

and soaking in my conversation

like you always said you would.

Why couldn’t you have fought harder

For our friendship?

Are you scared knowing

That I won’t be there this time

To pick up your slack?

When your mind is in knots

And worries cast wrinkles on your forehead

I will not be the one to iron them out.

Those dark moments when you doubt yourself

And your purpose

Will not be soothed by me

Telling you why you are wonderful.

I always understood, I still do.

But why can’t you tell me that you miss me?

Those dark moments

A nice write.

"...because admitting THAT aloud hurts too much
because loving you means having to let you go."

...is what I would have said but ONLY behind-my-eyes.

Thoughts that evoke a response within the listener are well done.

Take care,
Chris
