DancingA Poem by marielondon
You were my friend.
My good, old, friend, but I'd never thought of you as more. I found you endearing; the ease with which you smiled and the flip of your unruly brown hair were charming, but you were you, and I was me. But that night, you took my hand, you lead me into the clearing under the stars. "I'll Be" echoed across the marsh, over the creek and to places far, far away, connected to us by a few notes floating effortlessly through time. We moved together in sync, thinking the same thoughts, I'm sure. The old clock hung on the wall inside didn't budge, the hands had frozen for this moment. My search was over, my weary bones had reached the peak. I rested my head on you shoulder and you sighed. "Did you know that this was going to happen?" I asked you. "I've been waiting for it my entire life," you said. It was like a downpour in a drought, seemingly impossible. But sometimes the impossible things just make sense.
