Listen

Listen

A Poem by marielondon

Are my words meaningless to you?
I speak for you to listen,
yet your sympathy is absent.
Actions speak louder than words,
yet am I still mute?

Is there something in my easy smile,
that suggests that my skin does not also bruise?
Does my kindness to you give you permission to wound me,
only because you believe I don't also bleed?

I remember how things used to be,
when the words from my lips were as valued
as the strength of your opinions.
These times have gone.

I am trying to string together
the pieces that have been severed.
I am sitting while you are standing,
but that does not mean that you are taller.

You think I won't get up,
but all I'm asking is for you to hear me.

People who seek to dominate in conversation or in spirit feel inferior and small themselves. This mirrors "Break the Ocean"

Your questions are well-posed. I wish I could think of more to say, but it's just excellent. I loved it.
