Gift

A Poem by Mari R-J

You came into my life as a surprise
When I was too young and too stupid.
With nerves and fears I took you in
And made my heart your home.

I held your hand and consoled you.
When you were hungry I fed you,
gave you kisses when you got hurt,
And calmed you when you couldn't sleep.

Now you put your arms around my shoulders,
Open the door for me, and carry my bags.
Now you talk politics and philosophy with me
And, without knowing, calm me when I can't sleep.

Another intimate portrait of how we can begin by giving to the other, rescuing and loving them back to some good place, and sometimes, if we're fortunate, the kindness and patience will come back to us, balancing the relationship, after maybe it tips to one side for awhile. Another poem that resonates with me. Nicely done. By the way, the poem you reviewed- poet's surrender- is pretty different than what I normally write. There may be others that resonate more with you- Lenny, Coming Home, 10 Minutes . . . All on my relationship with my husband. Thanks for checking my page out . . . I'll check back to more of yours later . . .
