Light Years AgoA Poem by Mari R-J
I remember when we were happy
And it seems like lights years ago. We were kids full of life and dreams, Drunk on love and magic and eternity. Your heart learned my heart's songs And my heart learned your heart's poems. We shaped each other from dirt, clay, Glitter, concrete, wood, and light. We gave each other a future, a compass, Laughter, joys, treasures, and promises. We gave each other tears, bitterness, Fights, endings, fake smiles, and distance. We grew up each year and forgot the dreams. We became sober and mortal and faithless. Then your heart forgot the melody to my songs And my heart forgot the verses to your poems. Now we have our treasures and our memories. We still built more than we tore down. And after some dusting and polishing we find We're still glitter, concrete, wood and light. We will learn to sing new songs and write new poems And after the hangover, get drunk all over again. © 2016 Mari R-JReviews
