Such is the Fate of Tears...A Poem by Marian ElizabethSuch is the fate of tears, To hinder the task of blinking With hundreds of yellow lights, Lanterns that quickly flicker In the border of my eyelids, Now in the height of glory, Later small and almost gone, Now returning like bright suns, Playing on the brim of sadness. I contain them, Admire them, Laugh at them; Only when the liquor takes me As it journeys through my blood, When I think I see myself Leaning on my own thin shoulder Staring at a lake in nowhere That ten empty bottles formed; Then they fall, the bright droplets, Like adventurous young birds Leave a nest that cannot hold them. © 2016 Marian Elizabeth |
