UntitledA Poem by Marian ElizabethAfter blazing leaves of pleasure In a labyrinth I walked Pressured to discover exits But wanting to discover none. In my mind I raced through it Down paths with thorns on the floor No sun or moon in the sky No sky or air or consciousness No life but the glow of a mirage: An elephant in jewels bathed, On its forehead a clear Om, A myriad of crimson stars Dancing on ivory tusks, glimmering, Vines of bells humming songs Like tambourines under spells; In a vortex of sensations Every cell began to burn, to hurt, To mold woman into torch. Was that enlightenment? The gift of the mantra? An abstract chronicle of growth? When the blaze abandoned strength And the elephant was gone, The weak sound of his “salaam” Was all that my heart recalled. © 2016 Marian Elizabeth |
