A Poem by Marian Elizabeth
"

A short poem from my collection "Women: Little Moments in Time"

"

A witch told me long ago

That the red drops from my belly

Could in magic bind a man.

They should pay for themselves,

These rubies that fall in anger;

They hurt enough,

Burn enough,

Elevate my sadness high.

I could never tolerate them

If they weren’t a fine bracer

For the male that wants my heart.

"Blessed Be..." Many follow the Goddess.

An interesting vision shared.

hi Marian Elizabeth! i enjoyed reading this poem. good work!

unless i'm way off, i interpreted it to mean that menstruation is only worth it if it results in love and children. i really like how you expressed this. i'm curious about who this witch is too. good witch? bad witch? other kind of witch? and why was the narrator talking to a witch? if i had a suggestion, maybe add some kind of context or subtext about the witch so that i, as the reader, understand the narrator's relationship to this witch. overall, i liked this poem! i hope you post more of them!
