Be Not AfraidA Poem by Maria Ni MhurchuThe title is Pope John Paul 2 mantra. It gave me the strength to let go...Be Not Afraid Thoughts are festering in my head; I put the hoover to my ear In a frantic bid to suck them out. Life isn’t fair.
I didn’t ask for this but it happened. Will it end on New Year’s Eve? Or maybe on Valentine’s Day… I might feel better on my birthday Or will the cuffs be removed For Independence Day? I look at the calendar I have days marked out But days come and go… I remember John Paul’s words “Be not afraid” They say: courage is fear holding on a minute longer… I let go the branch And I somersault through the air Freefalling " Not knowing where I’ll end up Not caring " For the first time in my life. © 2013 Maria Ni MhurchuFeatured Review
