My Country Is Hungry

My Country Is Hungry

A Poem by Mariangel A

My family is gone, i'm alone
the emptiness
I can't do this anymore.
I'm hungry, desperate
just sitting on the floor.

Where do I go now?
They come in, as I allow
They take me with them,
will I escape this mayhem?
I miss them, I miss them so much

Where is my brother today?
Everything in my head is gray.
Everyone is getting killed
and it feels as if there is no way out.
My country is hungry.

I am hungry
We are starving
cravings rise
stuck in all these lies.
Will he ever die?

It's sad to see my people like this
they're crying,
hoping to see light once again,
they're dying.
But remember, be strong, mi querida Venezuela.

Venezuela is no longer a country with a government, institutions and a civil society. It’s a geographic area terrorized by a criminal enterprise that pretends to govern, with a civil society made up of two sets of people: accomplices and victims. The vast natural resources in Venezuela, which include one of the biggest oil reserves in the world, should make it an extremely profitable society, but those resources are instead used to directly profit the people in the authoritarian regime. Your poignantly expressed composition highlights the plight many in Venezuela must endure – a sad but true write. I can only join you in prayer that one day salvation will arise. Yo oración por ti y otros en tu tierra mi amigo - Dios te bendiga!
