Driving Rain

Driving Rain

A Poem by marianas

Flash!
The whole sky lights up
And I can see the jagged
Branch-like bolt
Through the windshield.

I have to force myself
To keep my foot steady on the
Crash!
Gas as the thunder
Follows with deafening intensity.

Rain--fast and pounding
But so changeable.
Flash!
I play with the wiper speeds,
Matching the changing
Crash!
Speed of the rain.

Headlights wobble crazily
Even though I'm going
Almost straight. No other cars;
No one else crazy
Flash!
Enough to enjoy this drive,
Like me,
Or just have the misfortune
To be caught
Crash!
In the suddenness of its onslaught.

It's night.
Black as the depths
Of space. Or
Flash!
High contrast
Black and white daylight.

You quickly put the reader in the car with you in this one. I like the use of "flash" and "crash" in the poem. However, their placements make you stumble through lines a little bit. I like your first stanza the best. It has a lot of great imagery in that one. This is the only piece I've read of your's so far so I'll have to go through and check out some of the others.
