Chapter One.

A Chapter by mariah

I opened my eyes and looked around. It was dark. I started feeling the ground around me where I had been lying. It was cold. That was when the fear rose up inside of me and i wondered how i had gotten where i was.
I blinked a few times and tried to adjust my vision. It was useless. I concentrated hard and tried to remember something, anything. I couldn't. Not my name, not what i was like, not anything that had ever happened to me, not even what me meant.
I sat like that, on the ground, for hours. Maybe even days. An odd feeling rose up in my stomach and it began to make sounds. I was startled at first and began to wonder if i was dying. I craved something, but i didn't know what. My head began to pound.
Footsteps. But what were footsteps? The word that came into my mind when i heard a pattling noise approaching from the distant dark.
Click. And suddenly everything was light. With the light came my memory and suddenly i knew where i was. I stood up, and walked out of the room. Next. I heard a voice say.
I began to wander around. It was a sort of warehouse, a sort of maze. The entire place had a cold cement floor and no windows. Only the flickering florescent lights above us. The walls were a sickening off-white colour that i was too used to. The paint, however, could barely be seen through the peeling and orangey rust. I walked into another room and closed the door behind me. There were six of us in this one.
Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. One. Two, you may notice, was skipped. No one spoke of the number two in this place. The counting ended, and suddenly we were moving upward. We were instructed to gather in the middle of the room, which we did with no reluctance. The walls begin to close in and i watched as they turned to metal before my eyes. We were picking up speed and still traveling upward from what i could feel.
In a matter of seven minutes and forty eight seconds, we landed with a whump. The whole mechanism shook tumultously and we all got headaches. When it stopped its' spasms we were pushed outside through the single small door, from which utter darkness was revealed. I found the place i was to be hazy and dusty. I smelled a soft scent of dirt as i began to wander around. It took me not quite a minute to realize where i was. I looked over an edge and saw a tye-dyed blue and green and white sphere. It was huge. Then i looked down to my feet and noticed craters. I was on the moon and i was looking at the earth.
I didn't have much time because when i got to close to the edge, i was pushed off by one of the men who had driven the space-traveler up here- which now had disappeared. I began falling but i had no rememberance of fear. I could have died right there and then with a splat into the earths inviting hands, but i didn't. A parachute that i wasn't aware i had went off automatically within a minute. It carefully lowered me down into the building i had just left from. I landed seated in a chair and found myself face to face with the men who had just flown me up. I had utterly no idea how they had gotten back before i had. None the less, i got up and walked out of the room, my parachute dragging behind me.
I passed by a room from which a peculiar high pitched drawn out noise was coming from. I looked through the pint sized window and saw children scraping walnuts. I remember wondering what all of those walnuts were for, i wish they would have told me.
