Zeus and His Lover a Trojan Prince?

Zeus and His Lover a Trojan Prince?

A Poem by Marc Marlon Villaflor
"

Why Zeus rape the Trojan Prince?

"

Stunned to his likeness
He tore his shallow clear skin
Surrendered his regal lair
Eagle lifted him to Mt. Olympus
to be beloved by Zeus

Don't think rape was involved Marc. The Greeks thought it acceptable for a man to have an erotic relationship with a youth. At worst he kidnapped the boy but then gave him immortality and paid his father in horses.

He tore his shallow clear skin
Surrendered his regal lair
Eagle lifted him to Mt. Olympus
to be beloved by Zeus

cuz he could? Would a God recognize it as rape or just exercising His right to do with a human as He willed?

Interesting poem. Always nice to acknowledge Zeus' forceful "love" and cheating on Hera.

Thanks for the reads.
For this subject, I wouldn't be afraid to break from the tanka form (or maybe put two together) to explore the myth more fully. It's hard to "get in" to all the questions this story presents in such a small space. The old master's of poesie thought form should reflect content. Using a form for the form's sake isn't effective unless it's paired with an appropriate subject. I like the poem as it is but I feel like there is more to tell.

I'm reading this for the human interest and can't find it. Sorry.
