Geisha Soup

A Poem by Marc Marlon Villaflor

Noodles sip

In winter’s nip

Asakusa strength

Saves the Tokyo soul

Technically, a Haiku can be a non-rhyming poem consisting of 17 syllables or fewer. The 5-7-5 rule is a formula used in American schools, to simplify the form. So yes, Marc - your poem in 17 syllables (I counted) and a Haiku - and a lovely one at that!

Good job! Maybe it's because i've been conditioned by your writing, but whatever you write (even a haiku) I feel very attached to the imagery. I love hot ramen on a cold day, and somehow felt the same feeling from your first two lines. I'm not particularly good at writing haikus, so I can't really critique it because I don't know what to base my comments on- but from my point of view, this is fantastic.

Thanks, I am glad :) you like it.
When I as younger I would write haikus as I sat in class. I like this because it has a traditional haiku feel. Keep writing Marc. I love the honesty in you writing and the purpose you put in doing something you love. I read the argument you guys were having today. Do not let naysayers stop you from expressing yourself. Good luck brother
