ExpectationsA Poem by marcieIs it fair to live out my dreams through my children? To want more for them Than i managed to reap for myself Am i just preying on their innocence? Steering them towards a pathway That through circumstance and lack of faith In myself and in the system I was unable to walk myself Jealous of the opportunities laid out for them Wanting them to grasp them with both hands And hold on tightly, savouring each moment But knowing deep down inside They will let it pass them by With little more than a passing glance and a shrug of shoulders it will be gone , lost forever Cast upon the wasteland Along with everything i wanted to be Will i be able to hide my disappointment ? Or gloat in the knowledge that they like me Have a black mark next to their name But instead i'll hold them and make everything o.k Brush them down ready for the next hurdle Along lifes highway
