The Crossroads

The Crossroads

A Poem by marcie

A  crossroads  looms ahead of me.

But which one should i take?

Which is right and which is wrong?

A decision only i can make.

Your princess to the public eye,

In private just a slave ,

Who learned through disguising bruises

How you expect me to behave.

What do you see in times of rage?

when my flesh meets your fist

Do you see terror in my eyes?

Or only see red mist?

To stay would be the easy choice,

To leave may cause me strife.

But the price i pay might be too dear,

For it may cost my life.

The Path that leads from you wont be easy,

With hills so steep i'll want to stop

And the only thing that spurs me on is

The view may be breath-taking from the top.

One day i will view the world beyond you

Fresh pastures  is all i'll see

And i'll bask in a quiet satisfaction

You have no power over me.

Oh what a magnificent piece of writing! So sad and yet your words show such courage ..

You've written lines with such fine meter and meaning: 'To stay would be the easy choice, To leave may cause me strife. But the price i pay might be too dear, For it may cost my life.' (you might add the word 'me' before my in the last line?)

If this is based on fact, dear lady, I send you hugs - if fiction, I send congratulations for writing a very fine first poem.

You say you've come to a cross roads, but I believe there is only one road, the road out and away. Beautifully expressed.

Who can critique poetry about such a subject as this? I hope this was a cathartic piece of writing.

Your poem is breath-taking and written like a person whom has been there. I was, once, for twelve years, until I saw my opportunity to make it all stop, finally. You have expressed this very well and your poem should be posted at every women's shelter on the planet!

This is beautiful and sad and hopeful. I've never been involved in an abusive (either emotionally, physically, or mentally) relationship and for that I'm grateful. I'm not sure I'd have the strength to make the decision.

Very nice work...

There are those emotional separations than come when one reaches the very crossroads that take one away or into the next chapters of life...

One must strive and truly see their strength when they reach this point in their live...a very well written poem...

I'm not sure that any path is ever the "right one"; it seems that all paths lead to choices, and what we do with them determines the outcome. With that in mind, the important thing is that you're moving forward on a path. journeys of the heart may disappoint, but they are seldom undertaken in vain.

Whether this is true or not, my heart truly goes out to those who suffer under such circumstances. I've never been able to understand men who behave that way and I'm sure I never will.

This is a beautiful and touching poem. Very nicely and seamlessly written, though sad but very realistic... congratulation :)
