Cocoon

Cocoon

A Poem by M. Shepherd

Hard to tell what age
I began to shrug
out of the cocoon
I plastered in place when
feeling that insidious pressure
from what I perceived,
as a caterpillar,
to be from above,
as -
ding the buns are done!
I emerged still a droopy caterpillar
covered in afterbirth
having learned nothing within but
how to make my memories
disappear with drink.

Hi... Did it really work or were they still behind your eyes anyway?

I like the shifting of gears in middle of your poem. It's like you're expecting this great final thought that kicks everything up, but you said "Screw this! I'm jumping back cause I'm not ready to be this all knowing yogi on top of a mountain. Another drink, please." Hey, at least you write well and I've seen some ugly a*s butterflies that should have never broke out. CD

The past tends to hang on like a rotted leaf to a stem in some lives. Those drinks become like medicine. Gotta watch them. My reviews often suck so forgive... I like this. Nice!
