Thoughts of snow in perpetual summer

Thoughts of snow in perpetual summer

A Poem by M. Shepherd

If it starts snowing in here
I'll know that 30 years ago
someone left a window open
during a snow storm
and the snow flew in
and burrowed itself in the corners
of the ceiling.
These snow nestlings will hatch
into a world that will soon
be devoid of snow.

Imagine only water.

Sort of a cold day in hell huh?

Seems we don't always choose the paths we get lost among ...and the rhyme has no reason at all. Life happens and all we can do is hope for a breath.

This poem gives me a really entertaining picture. I walk into my room, look up and exclaim, "How the hell did that happen?" Of course it's a little more crazy seeing as I'm in the middle of a desert.

Anyway, this was an enjoyable little read. Your writing always captures my imagination. Can't wait to read more.

The matter-of-fact tone combined with the odd notions of snow burrowing and nesting gives the piece a dystopian feel; it's a wonderful example of creating a certain atmosphere without over-writing a piece. And Jacob can have my winter, thank you very much.
