You're a stimulant

You're a stimulant

A Poem by M. Shepherd

You're a stimulant, you are, you
throw a monkey wrench into my incessant rest
and rouse me from numbness.
I've lain rutted in rain gutters
under a thick membrane of clutter
where my voice slips into the mucus
of those slimy walls I'm filled with,
and my words flirt with themselves, coquettish,
clandestine somewhere in an alley
outside the locked doors of me.

The energy you give me
carries into clarity,
if not precision, forgiveness,
you're a stimulant.

Amazing use of words and thoughts. I liked the energy and the drive of the words. Made the reader feel the need and the stimulant of another. Thank you Marcie for sharing the excellent poetry.

stimulant: functional activity or efficiency of an organism or any of it's parts...so says Webster
who died about 175 years ago, so what does he know about 2016 physiology. Well if he was here
to tell us, he would mention how it hasn't changed much since 1843; that there will still be
people who come along to clear a way for us. To make us see clearer.

well written Marcie....dana

I'm always trying to stay open to finding these people, if you have any advice on that, let me know.
Again, you're always so well written. I could read your words flirting to each other over and over.

The way the end winds back around to the beginning is certainly clever, but there's more than garden-variety cleverness here. The use of near-rhyme and the wonderful phrasing raises these piece well above the merely clever. There be some meat on these bones.

Awr gawsh thank you wk
we have to forgive others, most often forgive ourselves for the relationships that damage us...

i have also lain in those rain gutters, a bit too often...but there have been those who have woken me up...and allowed me to live and love again.

-- ohhhh... how poignantly you persevere to present the significance of "forgiveness"... -- my favourite short piece by you so far was the one about trees... but this one is in the same league...
