There Was a King
By David Devine Not long ago There was a King Who thought he could do Anything. For anything he’d do or say The town would stop And look his way. He’d smile and say “You know I’m the King” And I need to know Your listening. And what he said You best believed God save your soul If you disagreed. And even when he told a lie We’d laugh and say “He’s quite a guy!” And so, he did Just what he pleased And we’d bless him Every time he sneezed. And we never asked Who? What? Or Why?? For when he said “Jump!” We’d ask, “How High?”. But time soon passed And the King grew tired. And one day he stood And said, “Your Fired!” But there was no one Left around And somewhere, somehow He lost his crown Just then he heard Some minstrels sing “We’ve gone and crowned” “Another King!” And the King leaned out His tower there And his voice rang out Above the square And he proclaimed Quite unrefined “Where’s that @#!#% Crown of mine? And soon voices rose To him on high “Why you can kiss your Royal Crown goodbye!” And so, it was The wind had changed And the town came back To life again. And no one knew What time would bring For in their midst There was a King. Copyright 2019 Ain’t That Devine Music All Rights Reserved © 2020 manypoko |
