THE WINTER BLAHSA Poem by Sonia WalkerIt must be winter some place.
They creep up to you in the middle
of a cold and dark gray winter day when sunshine is scarce as pizza in a famine, or as a rare occurrence of winter jasmine. Oh man you've got the winter blahs. You and your honey are bundled up for a walk, King Kong and Big Foot holding mittened hands, trying to recapture some winter romance as each of you do an icy two-step dance. Oh man you've got the winter blahs. Lethargy takes over as the cold continues, television is boring and jokes are stale, reading a novel requires more time as you dream of living in a warmer clime. Oh man you've got the winter blahs. Your retired parents send a postcard of an exotic resort showing miles of beaches, "Wish you were here, join us for lunch. " Only if you send a ticket---thanks a bunch! Oh man you've got the winter blahs. Days are getting longer and break up is here, the snow is slushier as the temperature climbs, you wake up from hibernation and see more sunshine, with a smile on your face you know the winter blahs are on decline. © 2016 Sonia Walker |
