COMPANY IS COMINGA Poem by Sonia Walker
Company is coming,
I'm cleaning the house, scurrying about like a chased mouse, the dishes are screaming to be washed, begging me to clean them in a hurry from yesterday's dinner which was about curry. The old vacuum cleaner is humming along, sucking up dustballs as big as a fist, as they disappear into the tunnel of dirty mist, all of a sudden there is a loud bang, making me quiver as the cell phone rang, tripping over the vacuum twisted cord I fell hard, answering the phone feeling like a tub of lard. I wonder if this day will ever be over, as I look on the calendar on the wall, what a fool I have been to stumble and fall, I realize it is April the first playing a joke on me, cleaning the house for company a whole month early, which makes my mood crabby and surly.
