THE WARRIOR

THE WARRIOR

A Poem by Sonia Walker

I am a warrior,
fighting the battles
of life's challenges,
tripping over the cracks
on the sidewalks,
drinking cold coffee,
listening to sad songs,
working on taxes,
calling in borderline sick,
and driving the combative zone
of rush hour traffic,
what seems so important now
will eventually become
faded pictures found in a family album
whose dusty covers are a reminder
that warriors are not immortal.

That last line is absolutely amazing! It stands out the most and it is showing that despite how humanity's landmarks still stands in buildings, riches, etc., we as a people don't last. We can leave a legacy, preserve ourselves in videos and pictures, but our actual selves won't be actually there. Sure, there's cloning but that won't replace a one and only unique you.
