Blind Vision

Blind Vision

A Poem by Manik J
"

A piece I wrote some time back. Pretty straightforward, I believe. It basically aims to enter the eyes of the blind person and try to perceive his perception of the world.

"
Upon my thoughts I ponder,
What does a blind man see yonder?
For he possesses not the gift of vision,
And yet, he is not truly blind,
For he does see around him a world,
If only it exists in the window of his mind.

My mind wanders from my work,
I ask myself again,
As I continue to  ponder,
What does a blind man see yonder?

Of what hue does the sea he see?
What is the color of his tree?
Is his wood yet brown and green?
Or is everything draped in a grayscale sheen?

What does his brain perceive makes that periodic tick?
Reverberating his eardrums each second,
He knows it's a clock and is yet ignorant,
for he has only been told so,
His brain, unable to, the memory of a clock, mimic.

His eyes may remain forever asleep,
Yet awake is his inner flame,
His mind, working without a rest,
To create a world as ours, reality as deep,
A world which shall put to shame,
Our immaculate reality which we pursue with undying zest.

We perceive his life torturous,
Filled with uncertainty, constantly tumultuous.
Yet, I believe he is blessed,
To be able to turn away,
Away from the atrocities we commit,
To which we have confessed.
Away from this skewed existence we love,
A free bird, amongst pigeons, a dove.

His world is his own,
Fruit of the seeds he has made and sown,
The true power of the human mind at work.
For everything he etched from scratch,
And while we meet such an idea with irk,
The true potential of the human is only now at work.
To imagine, to create a world,
Out of nothingness,
A world of differing rules,
Where only he shall roam,
His very own labyrinth,
From the mind's tome.

We contend ourselves with the belief
that he sees none but an endless dark reef.
Perhaps we are naive,
Or we persist to live in ignorance;
Satisfied to leave them to deal
With the silence of their eyes.

Yet, as this night wears on,
And my nightlight doesnt wan,
My mind continues to ponder,
What does a blind man see yonder?
