The Winner

The Winner

A Poem by Amanda Joy
"

Prompt: Write a poem from the point of view of someone who hurt you.

"

I met you
and knew
you were different.

I didn’t go in for the kill.
Oh, no.

I waited
until our friendship blossomed.

Until you felt safe enough
to share a home-
to share a life.

I waited until you declared
platonic love.

Then my lips touched yours.

You knew what I was
before you kissed back;

A player.
A heartbreaker.
Your worst nightmare.

But I held you close
and sunk my teeth
deep into your neck
releasing my venom
until you were hooked.

And, like always,
I left a scar
on your heart
when I said goodbye.

I won’t give you closure.
I’ll never let you know
what I felt
or if I felt.

You’ll never know
if I think of you
or if I ever loved you
the way I know
you loved me.

You’ll always wonder.
You’ll think of me daily.
You’ll wish you could go back.
You’ll yearn for me.
You’ll dream of me.
And that means

I won.
