SLEEPING UNDER A TREE

SLEEPING UNDER A TREE

A Poem by manchilld99
"

another way to be a fool ...

"

I was sleeping under a tree

The sun shone brightly to awaken

and deliver me from unconsciousness.

Bright blue skies reflecting the light of day

had replaced the dark moonlit azure

a perfect backdrop to last night’s

starry path to heaven, a path untried.

I was alive.

and impatient

not yet grateful

just now realizing

a half-fallen tree on my roof

my bumper half-buried in its trunk

a half-finished fifth of vodka on the floor

a New York State Trooper at my door,

Jaws Of Life called to rescue

a fool found sleeping under a tree.

This one got me good! Lets start the with opening: I like how you romance the setting it pulled me in and got me all comfortable. As it progressed, I could totally apreciate the imagery it was real and descriptive. Then, when you hit us with the reality It all came together so perfectly. Its an awesome poem.

Isn't it amazing how things aren't always what they seem. This was wry and ironic and even funny, in a twisted way, I guess this is one of those times where one would say, "as long as everyone's ok ..." but your poem begs the question, are they? Really? Great stuff. :)

to get all the way to here, we have to become fugitives from the law of averages...we have to survive
