WILLIE MAYS

WILLIE MAYS

A Poem by manchilld99
"

This is about one of my boyhood heroes. He was one of the greatest athletes ever, and in my mind, the greatest baseball player to play the game.

"

Willie Mays

Cap flying

cleats slashing,

Over the shoulder,

What a catch....

Mickey, Hank, and

Roberto were great

but none was ever

your match.

No needles,

no 'clear', no 'cream'

Just a country boy,

A Natural .... ballplayin' American Dream.

Hall?

They should build you your own.

No - one on each coast

your fame to toast.

Best there ever was.

Say Hey!

Willie Mays

Hallowed be thy name.

Oh Mister....let me tell you what. THIS is fantastic. I TOO am a Willie Howard Mays Jr. buck duck say hey son of Cat Mays and pride of Fairfield Alabama born 5/6/31 fan. Willie is the very reason I am a baseball fan. He made me fall in love with the game way back when I was knee high to a short duck, buck. My only regret is that I didn't get to see more of his career than what I did having been born in '62. I agree though, wholeheartedly "Best there ever was" and I love it too that you think he should be in the hall "one on each coast"....great line. Well done friend. Your pen has painted a truly masterful pic here.
