heartache

Bittersweet

the gentle comfort of his presence
the warmth of his loving embrace
a soft "i love you " whispered,
his fingertips caressing my face

the light in his eyes when he smiles at me
the strength of his calm reserve
his knowing glance, his steady hand
the togetherness we both deserve

all my wishes, all my yearning
for things so simple as these,
living a life of bittersweet,
for his heart is deaf to my pleas.
