Today Would've Been...

Today Would've Been...

A Poem by Alisha Heistand

Today would've been
our anniversary.
A day when we would laugh
Smile
and be happy.

Today would've been
full of love
given from the both of us
with hugs and kisses all day long.

Today would've been
the day I could make you smile
And I could remind you
how much I care about you.

I don't want to remember yesterday
But now it's stuck in my head
I'm waking up each morning
Feeling so much dread.

Because

Today would've been
 our anniversary.

But now, to you,
It's all dead and gone.

The repetition works and I love the accompanying hydrangea image that is so beautifully sad in itself. Being able to remember is a blessing and a curse

I really like the repetition and I think it definitley conveys your pain very well.

It' amazing how a simple number of a date can be innocent of what it means to people. Just as the sun rises, unknowingly killing plants in a heat wave. But the pain is there. A softly written pain. I like that there isn't a sense of aggression in your tone and choice of words. It's an interesting quality to your work.

A good, simple poem. Not complex, but well written. Nice job!
