If I had a penny
For every thought I thunk I’d take all my savings downtown to get purple staggerin' drunk I’d throw coins at store windows Watch glass break into shatters Webs of glinting light For every thought that matters If I had a nickel For every moment wasted I’d tether dollars to a pole Just to watch you chase it I’d sprinkle cents into gutters And wait until the water clogs Then we’d all swim in sewage floods And give this city to the dogs If I got a smile from you For every curse I spat I’d hurl them out like poison And never take them back The muscles in your face would ache Your eyes would drown in tears Your smile would not cannot break And I’d be laughing in your ears © 2016 MelReviews
