The Unwritten

The Unwritten

A Poem by maktub
"

Italacized are the first letters of the first word of the first sentence of each new stanza. They spell the word "Unwritten".

"

Unwound and unheard;
Unloved and unknown -
Stories, just thrilling words,
Sensational bits on loan.

No news like bad news,
Scandals, murders, fights-
You act like you never knew
People separate each line.

Wrenching at my heart
Their stories you dismiss -
Penmanship of scars,
Some plead death’s kiss.

Reach, though unsought -
Bind their open wounds,
Never fear to touch,
They who could be you.

I must give a part of me –
That is my gift, my curse.
My heart feels the sting,
I cannot refuse their hurt.

Think – if you will uplift,
Extend the arm of hope,
Uncurl fingers of fearful grip
Your palm may halt loss.

Think – support another,
Life saved, coffin unburied;
A heart will beat easier,
Knowing they are carried.

Even if I could release
Myself from their demons…
No, I could not cease
Aching to relieve, free them.

Never turn people away -
I cannot ignore their cries,
Will not run from their pain,
Yours, theirs, become mine.

About
Things happen for a reason, and regardless of what that reason is, those things are not always good, but nor are they always bad...and oftentimes the unanswered prayers are the greatest blessings, and.. more..
