Shattered Mirror - Scattered LiesA Poem by maktubSelf Image.Dawning anew what may, I awakened
to the same self of yesterday. Mirrors reflected my outer imperfections - wherein I once thought my worth lay. Forgot beliefs, faith, talents, and passions... forgot never deign image - not Deity - Creator, resigned inner to collecting filth and dust at surface, unless I dared to delve deeper. While traversing my trails of self travel, I became enamoured with reflected others... and wished - within - I could resemble them... ever searching alterations to endeavor. Mirror, mirror, spoke words untrue, impure - hurt my heart with your slicing lies... I despise shimmering statements uttered, where you denied my beauty inside. Overlooked one too many times, she, who I could not deny - my self within... Thinly concealed were my real qualities, revealed only when cleansed was sin. Shattered fragments spread across floor; I'll not resent what I cannot stop being... It won't reveal the lovely me within, so I've broken that glass deceiving. © 2008 maktub |
