Shell on Shells

Shell on Shells

A Poem by Jon Mahaffie

sitting at his oak desk
clacking a pen cap
he auditions a new thought

his players are
sunk costs, the upstart,
and the unexamined

the -daddy why don't yous-
crumple into a patina
on his demeanors

that can't be washed,
for its value is so grand,
that no one buys it.

and that new thought gets the part...but at too high a price to get into the movie?
well, maybe...
like the brevity, the short lines...the abstract quality..yet I like the metaphor used, the players---like the old players in Shakespeare...sometimes our words are the greatest actors.

because mainstream will not buy novel ideas, radical movements as it isn't something they're used to and it deprives them of their comfort zone and that is quite uncomfortable. but it is sad, so many wonderful ideas rejected because of limited thinking and silly comfort zones. how can we advance society if not for radical changes? this also made me think of pharmaceutical companies only accepting drugs that make big bucks. but who cares that people hallucinate or become crippled or even die? haha, i went ahead of myself! well wonderful works instigate thoughtful pondering.
