Old Man

Old Man

A Poem by Angel Dubois
"

inspired by a city bus ride watching people inside and outside the bus windows.

"
Quiet dignity
Wrinkles a map of your life
your eyes dulled by age
yet bright with wisdom
You watch
And the world goes by
Old man what are you thinking?

You stare
Into space
Children giggle and point
A high pitched sound
And they pass you by
You watch them walk away
Old man what are you thinking?

You smile softly
Old memories like sepia prints
Play out in your mind
Age melts like snow
You caress your beard
You sit and contemplate
Seasons pass you by
Old man what are you thinking?

Pigeons pace
Upon your vacant bench
Snowflakes have covered it
An old friend came to call
You left with Him
Where are you now
And
Old man what are you thinking?
