A Battle with BloodA Poem by Galldora KingA battle with oneself...As she takes her first breath into this world She knows not of the crude judgment awaiting her Not of each extra pound that counts against her Eyes that demand a thin self Yet they don’t think of her as a boulder Not yet But then she turns 5...or so years old And she hears her blood talk about her extra fat She ignores it, or so it seems But she cries in the bathroom Then later comforts herself As she ages she meets plenty of acquaintances Plenty Yet not one stays To comfort her of her everlasting beauty So she is Away from judgment Covering herself with a invisible veil Her mother loves her Unfortunately her mother Ignorant of her harsh words And what effect it has on her little lily Continues with denigration of the extra skin And poor lily listens on Until she cares not of what they say And ignores their spiteful words And pretends not to care To not have a soul To not have a feeling Of the scornful words And no one cares That little lily dies... A little inside
