Cracked foundation

Cracked foundation

A Poem by septlila

I thought I would stay there forever
Comfortable in familiarity
But I grew up
And the more I did
The more cracks were seen in the foundation
These are the people who taught me to love like God
Yet they hate like the world
Sometimes I miss the friendly community
Sometimes I wish I could go back
I can't turn my cheek to ignorance
The community I once had is gone
And wont be back

Religious disillusionment can be a very painful experience, and that appears to be what has happened here. The speaker is breaking ties of longstanding with a religious community. The stated reason for the departure is the discovery of hypocrisy in the community in its failure to love according to its teachings. I don't know if the speaker plans to seek a new affiliation, but the fact is that all religions contain some members who do not live up to their professed ideals.
